SUBJECT: Proposed Wheaton Library
As you are aware from past meetings with members of the community, the residents I represent near Wheaton Regional Library are strongly opposed to the relocation of the library to downtown Wheaton.
Though I fully support and encourage the revitalization of the Wheaton business district, after hearing the arguments both for and against relocating the library, I am writing to affirm our commitment to ensuring Wheaton Library remains in its current location.
The Library services a diverse population of youths, seniors, immigrants and families both within adjoining communities and throughout Montgomery County. Furthermore, the current location is convenient for residents not only because of its access for disabled residents, but also because parking is currently ample, free, and without the concerns about misuse that plague libraries in business districts.
This is an extremely important point, given that during these challenging financial times, many residents use our public libraries not just for reading material, but also for internet access, job searches, County services and programming, and as a safe place for our children to spend time.
I hope that you will join me in ensuring that Wheaton Regional Library will remain in its present location and in reassuring residents that this matter has been put to rest.
I would appreciate a response by the close of business on Friday, October 9th.
Thank you.
